Council’s deputy leader to “sleep rough” for the night to highlight homesless in the borough
Telford & Wrekin Council’s deputy leader, Councillor Richard Overton, will join a host of volunteers “sleeping rough” on Friday (27 NOV) to raise funds for the Stay Project.
Volunteers will be “sleeping rough” outside Meeting Point House in Telford Town Centre, staying out all night on Friday, sleeping in cardboard boxes under the stars from 7pm – 6am.
The Health & Wellbeing Board is supporting the charter for homeless health as the Board recognises that people who are homeless face some of the worst health inequalities in society.
The aim of the event is to raise as much money as possible for the Stay Project.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin’s deputy leader and chair of the Health & Wellbeing Board, said: “Through the Charter for homeless health, which we signed last month, the Council has committed to providing leadership on addressing this issue.
“The annual Stay Project sleep out is a great opportunity to highlight the excellent work done by the charity in providing help and support for homeless people in the borough.”
If anyone would like to sponsor Councillor Richard Overton a Virgin Money Giving Page has been set up.
