Bournville House Extra Care Housing Scheme
Through a joint venture between Telford & Wrekin Council, Bournville Village Trust (BVT) and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Bournville House Extra Care Housing Scheme at Lightmoor is on target to open in autumn next year.
Bournville Village Trust (BVT) are leading on commissioning the building of Bournville House, with Telford & Wrekin Council leading on securing a care and support provider to work alongside BVT when the scheme opens.
The tender for the care and support service went out on 1 November 2010, and the Council is expecting a great deal of interest from prospective providers in delivering the service at Bournville House.
The scheme, located in the centre of Lightmoor Village will offer 59 well equipped, self-contained two bedroom flats for older people who need care and support to stay independent.
A range of high quality communal facilities feature within the scheme, including a restaurant, a gym, hairdressing salon, winter garden and an external landscaped garden area with bowling green, lounges and an IT suite.
Cllr Jacqui Seymour, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Support, said: “Extra Care Housing is a new concept in housing and care for older people, the purpose-built apartments available at Bournville House will be combined with a flexible and responsive care and support service the Council will have commissioned. Bournville House will be a modern, fresh and stimulating environment for older people to enjoy independently, but with the care and support they need easily accessible 24 hours a day.
The construction work at Bournville House is progressing well. Members of the Senior Citizens Forum and the BVT Residents Involvement Group recently met with Stanbridge Interiors and BVT Architects to share mood boards and progress the interior design of the scheme.
Peter Roach Chief Executive of Bournville Village Trust said: “Bournville Architects have produced a fantastic design for Bournville House which provides another step in the delivering our vision for Lightmoor.”
