Southwater library to extend Sunday opening
Telford & Wrekin Council is to extend Sunday opening at Southwater Library because of the popularity of the service.
This weekend the Southwater development will celebrate its official opening with a day of entertainment, including markets, fireworks and an appearance from children’s TV presenters and Free Radio stars, Sam and Mark.
Since Southwater One opened in July, the library has been drawing more than 500 visitors every Sunday, when it opens 10am – 4pm.
The library offers a welcoming space to relax, access technology, borrow books and an interactive history of the local area.
The Southwater development has completely transformed Telford town centre, with many new restaurants, a new 85 bedroom hotel and an IMAX cinema. This will soon be followed by the planned £200m regeneration of Telford Shopping Centre.
Southwater is a public/private partnership that has placed Telford as a major regional conference and leisure destination.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for customer services and libraries, said: “The Southwater development has been a huge success already and I am delighted that Southwater One, and the library, has been so well used by our residents.
“This weekend’s official opening will be a chance to celebrate this ongoing success and I’m sure that it will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Southwater Library is staffed between 10am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 10am – 4pm at the weekend. A self service facility is available at other times when the Southwater One building is open.
