Carols at Southwater
Telford’s new Southwater Development will be getting the borough into the Christmas spirit with a major free carol event for all to join in.
The event on the evening of Thursday 11 December is being organised with BBC Radio Shropshire and will be broadcast live on radio and internet.
The hour long carol singsong will take place around on the development’s Southwater Square outside the new library and anyone can just drop by and join in.
The event will be compered by Radio Shropshire’s breakfast show presenters Clare Ashford and Eric Smith.
The Council will be encouraging community groups and schools to come get involved in the first event of this kind in the borough.
Councillor Kuldip Sahota, council leader, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Radio Shropshire and I am sure this will be a fantastic event for the borough and real chance for us all to come together, spread a bit of Christmas spirit and showcase to the world what this borough has to offer.
“The feedback from people is that they want to see more events that they join in at Southwater and what better opportunity than a Christmas event like this.
“Southwater is already attracting thousands of visitors to the borough from far and wide and events like this will just help to spread that message even wider.”
The Carols at Southwater will be broadcast live from Southwater between 6pm and 7pm on 11 December.
More details about the event will be published shortly at www.telford.gov.uk and the Southwater Facebook page.
The £250m Southwater development is a public/private partnership that is delivering a new night time economy in Telford town centre and features a range of restaurants and bars and leisure facilities, including a hotel and an 11-screen IMAX Cineworld.
