Free multi storey this weekend heralds improved pricing structure
Telford & Wrekin Council is offering free car parking in the new multi storey at Southwater for three days this coming weekend – ahead of launching an improved pricing structure.
The 602 space multi storey car park – which opened in June – will be free to all comers on Friday 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November.
Then the new pricing structure will go live on Monday 24 November and will be as follows:
Monday to Saturday 8am - 5pm
Up to one hour: £1.10
Up to two hours: £1.60
Up to three hours: £2.20
Up to four hours: £3
Up to five hours: £4
Five hours or more: £6
Overnight after 5pm: £1
Sundays 8am-5pm: £1
Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Kuldip Sahota said: “We have taken on board feedback from residents in respect of the current tariff regime and we have acted on their concerns.
“I am delighted that we can make the car park free for this coming weekend as a present to our residents and I hope they take full advantage.
“The new pricing structure that is launched on Monday makes for a more incremental charging tariff with costs increasing per hour up to five hours and an overnight tariff which starts at 5pm rather than the current 6pm.
“The revised tariffs will mean that users going for a meal or to see a film in Southwater will now avoid high car parking charges that were previously of concern to users.
“We were also aware that many evening films shown at Cineworld started just after 5pm meaning visitors could not benefit from the current £1 overnight tariff which starts from 6pm.
“By bringing the overnight tariff forward to 5pm it will mean that visitors can enjoy good value parking all evening.”
