Christmas carols come to Southwater
Telford & Wrekin Council and BBC Radio Shropshire are hosting their first ‘Carols in Southwater’ on Thursday 11 December.
The hour long carol sing-along will be broadcast live on radio and streamed online.
The build up to the event starts at 11am with an outdoor market offering treats and culinary delights which will run until 8pm.
From 2pm, local schools and adult community choirs will take to the stage located outside Southwater One to perform well known songs to get everyone into the festive spirit.
There will be family based activities taking place throughout the day, including the making of oriental water lanterns, which will be floated on the lake later in the evening creating a magical colourful spectacle.
At 6pm, BBC Radio Shropshire presenters Eric Smith and Clare Ashford will host the hour long carol sing-along outside the new library. Everyone is welcome to drop by and join in.
As well as all things Christmassy, Eric and Clare will be joined by the Jackfield Brass Band for a real authentic sound to Christmas.
The Council is encouraging community groups and schools to get involved in the first event of its kind in the borough.
Council leader, Kuldip Sahota, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Radio Shropshire and I am sure this will be a fantastic event for the borough and real chance for us all to come together, spread a bit of Christmas spirit and showcase to the world what this borough has to offer.
“The feedback from people is that they want to see more events that they join in at Southwater and what better opportunity than a Christmas event like this.
“Southwater is already attracting thousands of visitors to the borough from far and wide and events like this will just help to spread that message even wider.”
Carols in Southwater will be broadcast live between 6–7pm on 11 December 2014.
