Box Road works to Ironmasters Way
The latest phase of highways improvements to Telford town centre’s Box Road will see Ironmasters Way and the footpath between Ironmasters Way and Rampart Way temporarily closed from Monday 19 January.
These works are part of the £11.8m Box Road Regeneration project and the road and footpath needs to be closed to allow works to improve pedestrian links between the train station and the town centre.
The closures will be in place from Monday 19 January 2015 and are anticipated to last for 12 weeks, with an expected end date of Friday 10 April 2015.
The diversion route for the road closure will be via, for vehicular traffic travelling southbound, Forge Gate and Lawn Central and for traffic travelling northbound, Rampart Way and Forge Gate.
The diversion route for pedestrians between the town centre and the train station will be via Ironmasters Way and Rampart Way. The section of the footbridge over the Eastern Primary will remain open to pedestrians.
The Box Road Regeneration includes work to convert the Box Road to two way traffic to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists as well as improving access to the shopping centre and new developments are continuing.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member with responsibility for transport, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their patience and co-operation and apologise for any inconvenience caused while the work on the Box Road is ongoing.
“We are making the Box Road two way to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists and to improve the access to new developments like the town centre ASDA and Southwater and also Telford Shopping Centre.”
