Pride in Your High Street fund bidding deadline extended

The deadline for bids for Telford & Wrekin’s £1 million Pride in Your High Street fund closing deadline is being extended to the end of September 2015.

Pride in Your High Street fund bidding deadline extended

This is to allow groups wanting for a share of this £1 million pot to more time to refine applications and bids for their high streets.

The Pride in Your High Street fund is open to bids from any organisations to support the following areas: Dawley, Donnington, Hadley, Ironbridge, Madeley, Newport, Oakengates, St Georges and Wellington.

The fund launched in mid May has received much enthusiasm and interest.

As the Fund is keen to see joint bids supporting the areas which can benefit from funding, the application deadline has been extended by a further two months to 30 September to give organisations more time to get together, develop their ideas and to submit their bids.

Extending the bidding time means that decisions on what schemes will be successful will now be made in January 2016 with grants awarded soon after.

The Pride in Your High Streets fund encourages groups to work together to submit significant bids that will greatly benefit a town or centre rather than smaller bids that may just benefit individual groups.

The £1m fund, part of the Council’s Pride in Your Community initiative, will be split into two parts. The first part of the fund, a total of £800,000, will be open for projects focussed on:
• Increasing footfall in a high street or centre
• Bringing redundant or empty buildings back into use
• Bringing a new service or function to a high street or centre
• Making a high street or centre cleaner and more pleasant
• Extending established operating hours of a high street or centre, for example at evenings or weekends
• Creating or protecting jobs

The second part of the fund is a £200,000 innovation fund. For this, the Council will be seeking expressions of interest from groups in the same areas who wish to develop original ideas that will encourage wider community involvement.

This part of the fund would help support projects and events that promote borough towns as destinations, highlighting their distinctive and individual attractions.

Cllr Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Business, Neighbourhood and Customer Services said; “The Pride in Your High Streets fund is attracting a lot of interest in the community and applicants felt that to get groups together and to make those bids that will have a really big and lasting impact in these high street areas needed more time.

“So we’ve listened to that feedback and extended the bid deadline and look forward to receiving some really exciting bids that can help attract more people and business to these high streets.”
