Cash grants for BMX track for Woodside
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride In Your Community fund and the Veolia Environmental Trust have combined to provide a BMX track for Woodside.
The Trust has awarded the Friends of Rough Park a grant of £39,999 to create the facility on land off Woodside Avenue.
The Pride In Your Community fund is also contributing £7,500 to improve an access footpath leading to the facility.
As part of the deal, Madeley Town Council will be taking on the ongoing inspection and maintenance of the BMX track.
The decision to grant the funding follows the Friends of Rough Park approaching both Telford & Wrekin Council and Madeley Town Council to seek assistance in getting funds.
The money will now be used to create a BMX track and a family picnic area with natural play space.
Jean Edwards, chairman of the Friends of Rough Park, said: "This grant is great news. It means we will be able to provide a facility where children and young people can safely practice riding their BMX or mountain bikes.
"This positive activity will encourage healthy lifestyles and keep young people engaged, reducing inappropriate use of other areas and anti social behaviour."
Councillor Shaun Davies, Cabinet Member for Business, Neighbourhood & Customer Services added: "I am delighted that the Pride In Your Community fund has been able to step in to help the Friends of Rough Park and I look forward to see the area being redeveloped as a useful public amenity."
