The Marshals are coming!
Through our continuing commitment to keep the community safe and to help people get home, the Taxi Marshal scheme has been extended to include Southwater.
Taxi Marshals currently offer help to people around the Red Oak car park area on Friday nights and outside Pussycats on Saturday nights.
From this Friday (21 AUG) Taxi Marshals will be heading to Southwater to guide people to their taxis, whether they are looking for a black cab or simply locating their pre-booked taxis.
Marshals will be around from 10-11.30pm on Fridays and from 10pm until midnight on Saturdays.
They aim to ensure that people who have been enjoying the new restaurants and cinema in Southwater can locate a black cab at the taxi rank or access their pre-booked taxi at the designated pick up and drop off point.
Councillor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Housing, Public Health and Protection, said: “We want people to go out in Telford and have a good time. We don’t want their safety to be compromised by being unable to get home safely.
“The role of the taxi marshal is to point people in the right direction as well as ensuring that taxi drivers are operating properly by picking up the correct passengers.
“We don’t want people stranded and risking their safety, our aim is for people to have a good time and arrive safely at their chosen destination at the end of their night.”
The taxi rank, where people can get a hackney carriage (black cab) is located behind Southwater One and Cineworld. The pick up and drop off point for people to get their pre-booked private hire taxis is located at the entrance to the Town Park between the Ice Rink and Telford International Centre.
Initially Taxi Marshals around Southwater is a trial on Friday and Saturday nights until Saturday 26 September. Should the trial prove successful Marshals will continue until the end of March, when it will be further reviewed.
