Improvements to footways
The first stages of a new traffic management scheme for the roads around Wrekin College and Old Hall School in Wellington will begin next month.
This follows recent consultations on traffic management proposals for some of the roads in the area.
Work, which is due to start in February, will provide an improved footway along Leegomery Road, between its junction with Whitchurch Rd and Ladycroft.
The work will also aim to improve a section of footway on Whitchurch Road next to the Park Hotel.
These are part of Telford & Wrekin Council's Borough Towns Initiative and will provide a much needed section of footway, as pedestrians are currently having to walk along the side of the road.
The scheme has so far gained support from local residents after a meeting was held with representatives from the Council to discuss the proposals.
Residents have sent in more than 200 responses to the proposals and the Council is looking to confirm proposals for these roads in early 2010, once the feedback has been analysed in more detail.
The Council will be contacting the local residents to confirm dates for when the work will begin, how it will be managed and will continue to review feedback on other proposals that were discussed for other roads around Wrekin College and Old Hall school.
Council leader Andrew Eade said: 'We are really pleased with the response from residents following the recent consultation.
"From the feedback received, it is clear that the majority of local residents recognise the need to provide a much-needed footway along part of Leegomery Road, which is a route that residents and pupils of local schools use on a daily basis.
"We will be writing to people in the local area shortly to confirm further details of the work and when it will begin."
